Body found in Delco suitcase identified

The man found whose decomposing body was found in a suitcase off of a Delaware County road was identified as Scott Stephen Bernheisel, authorities announced Friday.

The 40-year-old’s body was found Thursday afternoon by a man walking his dog on the 1000 block of 2nd Street. The man called police afternoticed a strong odor emanating from the suitcase, which was located in weeds approximately 20 feet off of the roadway.

Bernheisel was described as standing 5-feet, 8-inches tall, with a last known address in Philadelphia.

Authorities are investigating how Bernheisel’s body came to be in the suitcase, and are asking anyone who had recent contact with him to call Tinicum Township Police or Delaware County Detectives.
