Wawa’s first store, which opened 50 years ago at MacDade Boulevard and Swarthmore Avenue, meets the axe in favor of a Super Wawa opening at MacDade and Kedron in 2016. No word on what will become of the original structure, but its closure brings tears to anyone who bought hoagies there after a round of putt-putt on the Boulevard.
Famous Philadelphians’ famous kids: Live Nation’s Michael Lessner has watched his daughter Raquel run her Strut-This clothing empire — along with his wife, Barbara — since 2011, with celebrities like Lea Michele and Kendall Jenner donning the brand’s workout gear. Along with selling at local Flywheel cycling studios, Strut-This just signed a deal with Bloomingdale’s to carry the line in six stores nationwide, with Macy’s (owned by the same company as Bloomies) hopefully to follow.
Meanwhile, catering/live venue consultant Harry Spivak’s daughter Katie just got a management gig with MCP Presents, responsible for Disco Biscuits’ City Bisco and last weekend’s Hudson Project. Harry is hosting a reunion of Philly’s best old-school restaurant chain, H.A. Winston & Co, Aug. 14 at North Shore Beach Club. The chain had 22 locations between 1972 and 1992.
Food Trust’s Night Markets and its rush of culinary trucks just won a $150,000 grant to train local entrepreneurs. For its Aug. 14 market at Lancaster Avenue and 35th Street, the Food Trust ups its game, booking Chill Moody, the West Philly Orchestra and Happy Accident, which features Yael Lehmann, executive director of the Food Trust, and the organization’s Brian “Bucky” Lang.

• The Kimmel Center was one-stop shopping for local celebs two days in a row. First, television producer/host Nancy Glass, CBS 3’s Stephanie Stahl and Film Office doyenne Sharon Pinkenson came out for a screening of “Alive Inside,” an award winner at Sundance. Then Philadelphia Style magazine’s 10th anniversary soiree hit the Kimmel with Mayor Nutter, Ed Rendell, and just about everyone else in attendance.
