The collaboration between Tigre Hill and Larry Kane is in flux. The controversial film director, who did the Mumia Abu-Jamal doc “The Barrel of a Gun,” and the anchorman-turned-author recently began a documentary based on Kane’s time as the lone journalist on The Beatles’ 1964 and 1965 tours of America. Last week, Kane was contacted by name-above-the-title filmmakers doing a studio-funded film about the tours and was invited to participate — but he’s contractually bound to reveal nothing. Hill says he’ll get a consultant credit on the larger project and the producers may use his already-shot Kane footage.
Philly hasn’t heard from its favorite son of raunchy electro hip-hop Naeem Juwan, aka Spank Rock, for a while, but his label’s publicist just dropped word that a new single, “Gully,” will be out May 20, produced by Boys Noize. No word on when an album is due.
West Philly thespian Colman Domingo was ready to make his hometown debut, for the Philadelphia Theater Company’s “A Boy and His Soul” on May 23 — until he got what he called a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to portray Rev. Ralph Abernathy” in a film about Martin Luther King. PTC is filling the gap by starting Colin Quinn’s “Unconstitutional” earlier than planned, on June 13.

• BiblioBash 2014 at the Parkway Central Library’s Skyline Room honored Deputy Mayor Michael DiBerardinis for contributions to keeping Philly’s libraries open during tough economic times. Meanwhile, downstairs at the library, I spied Larry Gold (string arranger to Gamble & Huff and The Roots) and activist Sister Mary Scullion; she’s just off the celebration of Project HOME’s 25th anniversary with Jon Bon Jovi.
