Botched attempt to mail weed ends with arrest of Philly police officer

A 14-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department was arrested Tuesday and is expected to lose his job after allegedly bungling an attempt to mail a package of pot.

Officer William Branish Jr., 43, attempted to send a package of marijuana in the mail using an associate’s account at a local company, according to the Philadelphia Police Department Internal Affairs Unit. which was tipped off to the alleged scheme.

When the package was returned as undeliverable, another employee at the local business received the package.

Branish is charged with simple drug possession and possession with intent to deliver.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross suspended Branishfor 30 days with the intent to dismiss him, the police department said.
