Boy injured in Kensington shooting

Police said a 13-year-old boy was shot Sunday afternoon in Kensington, and a pair of men took five guns during a home invasion robbery early Monday morning in the Far Northeast.

The boy was taken to Episcopal Hospital with a gunshot wound to his right foot after shots rang out at around 4:30 p.m. on the 3100 block of Custer Street, authorities said.

His injuries are not expected to be life-threatening, according to police. No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.

About a block away, on the 3000 block of Kensington Avenue, a 26-year-old man was shot once in the stomach and once in the back just before 8:15 p.m. Sunday.

Authorities said he was listed in critical condition at Temple University Hospital.

Two gunmen stormed an apartment just after 3 a.m. Monday on the 10800 block of E. Keswick Road in the Far Northeast, police said.

They held a 25-year-old man at gunpoint, taking five handguns and a Rolex watch, according to investigators. The victim was not injured, and the suspects fled before officers arrived on the scene.

Just after 3:15 p.m. Monday, a 31-year-old man was shot four times on the 6700 block of Guyer Street in the Elmwood section of Southwest Philadelphia.

Officers rushed him to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he is in stable condition, according to police.

In West Philadelphia, officers responded at 2:45 a.m. Monday to the 200 block of N. 58th Street, where they found an 18-year-old man who had been shot once in the left shin.

He was taken to Penn Presbyerian with nonlife-threatening injuries, police said.

In other news, a 63-year-old woman was seriously injured in a crash Sunday night, part of a string of recent hit-and-runs in the city.

It occurred at around 10:50 p.m. near the corner of Tyson and Castor avenues in the Castor Gardens section of Northeast Philadelphia.

The woman was driving north on Castor, investigators believe, when her vehicle collided with a 2006 Jeep that was travelling east on Tyson. Officers found the Jeep, but the driver had left the scene.

Her car hit a pole and a fire hydrant and was towed before officers arrived, according to police.

She was transported to Jefferson University Hospital with an aortic tear and is in critical condition, authorities said.

Investigators are working to gather video from nearby businesses.

It’s at least the sixth hit-and-run that has occurred in Philadelphia since Nov. 7.

Police said a 40-year-old man died following a violent crash Monday afternoon on Pratt Street near Roosevelt Boulevard in the Northwood neighborhood.

The car was heading west on Pratt at around 3:20 p.m. when the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit a pole at the Boulevard intersection. Authorities said the man, a passenger in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the driver was transported to Albert Einstein Medical Center. There was no word on their condition.
