Phillies vs. Braves: Betting preview and predictions for July 27, 2022

After bouncing back from being swept by the Cubs by taking down the Braves on Monday night, the Phillies came back to realism ask they were defeated by their division rival Tuesday 6-3.

Philadelphia once again lived by the long ball. Kyle Schwarber returned to the lead-off spot in the lineup and reminded everyone in the 6th inning why he should stay there.

Aaron Nola has returned to ace form for the majority of the season, but last night was not his best showing. Atlanta peppered Nola throughout the evening, scoring in four of Nola’s six innings pitched.

Today’s 12:35 start will see Kyle Gibson toe the rubber against former Phillie and age-less wonder Charlie Morton. Morton may sport a 4.20 ERA on the season overall, but has been much stronger as of late. He has pitched to the tune of a 2.64 ERA and 1.11 WHIP across 30.2 innings in the last month, accumulating 35 strikeouts along the way.

Let’s look at the game which could be very high scoring with these two on the mound.

Pitching matchup Tuesday, July 26th – 7:05p @ Citizen Bank Park

Kyle Gibson (5-4, 4.69 ERA) v. Charlie Morton (5-4, 4.20 ERA)

Although the Braves strikeout a ton, that is not Gibson’s forte. He settles in at No. 46 on the national league strikeout leaderboards. Morton, however, is currently sitting at No. 6. The Phillies could struggle especially as shadows begin to play a factor in the game.

That being said, the Phillies lineup is slashing an impressive .372 / .449 / .512 against him in their two games against him so far this season. Expect this to be a high-scoring affair.

If those stats aren’t convincing enough, the insights for today’s game are leaning toward the over as well. Per Tallysight:

Last 10 – Over/Under

  • PHI is 5-4-1 in their last 10 games.
  • ATL is 9-1-0 in their last 10 games.

Last 10 – Score

  • PHI averaged 3.7 total score in their last 10 games.
  • ATL averaged 5.1 total score in their last 10 games.

Last 10 – Score Allowed

  • PHI allowed 4.8 score on average in their last 10 games.
  • ATL allowed 4.6 score on average in their last 10 games.

With the total set at an even nine runs, and the humidity set at a perfect 50% for game time, the over seems enticing.
