Brayden Schenn added to Flyers roster

The Flyers are getting younger and more exciting with each passing day. The team announced yesterday that Brayden Schenn had been added to the roster.

Schenn, who was acquired as part of the Mike Richards’ blockbuster deal, came into training camp with a lot of hype. But a bum left shoulder, along with an unfriendly cap hit, forced the Flyers to send him to the minors.

“I think we all have a good handle on what he can do, what he can bring,” GM Paul Holmgren said prior to the start of the regular season. “Like I said, I don’t know if this is going to be short-term or long-term with Brayden.”

The 20-year-old started the season with the Adirondack Phantoms, where he recorded eight points (four goals, four assists) in four games. He departs as the AHL’s second-leading scorer. To make room, the Flyers have loaned Zac Rinaldo and Harry Zolnierczyk to Adirondack.

Schenn was the ninth overall pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft and is widely considered NHL-ready. Some publications even had him penciled in as a potential Rookie of the Year candidate.
