BREAKING: 76ers send Jaden Springer to Celtics in surprise trade

The Philadelphia 76ers have traded young, defensive-minded guard Jaden Springer to the rival Boston Celtics for a 2024 second-round pick, more favorable between the Chicago Bulls and the New Orleans Hornets.

Sixers trade Jaden Springer

The 76ers selected Jaden Springer with the 28th pick in the 2021 draft. The 76ers had picked up his team option earlier this season, making it seem like he was going to be a part of their long-term plans. However, this isn’t the case anymore, with Springer now a member of the Celtics.

This year was the first year Springer was really given a chance to show what he could do. After leading the Sixers G-League team, the Delaware Blue Coats, to the championship last year, Springer was ready to convert his potential to on-court production.

This season he appeared in 32 games, averaging 4.0 points, 1.8 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 0.8 steals per game. He shot 39.0% from the field, but his real value came on the defensive side of the ball, where he showed just how valuable he is as a lockdown defender. The former University of Tennessee product ends his career playing in just 50 games for the Sixers.

The 76ers Trade Deadline

This was the final move of the trade deadline for the 76ers. While everyone waited with bated breath for news of an Andre Drummond trade, that never happened, the 76ers shipped out their young prospect for one second-round pick. Philadelphia also acquired Buddy Hield from the Indiana Pacers and shipped out fan favorite Patrick Beverley to the Milwaukee Bucks.
