BREAKING: Former Eagles QB Carson Wentz is back in the NFC East

The Indianapolis Colts traded a first round pick for Carson Wentz following the 2020 season. After one year, he’s been moved again. According to reports from Adam Schefter, the former Eagles franchise QB has been traded to the Washington Commanders for a package of picks that is thought to include a couple of third round picks.

The move comes after Colts Owner, Jim Irsay had been reportedly been demanding the Colts look for a change at QB after the team lost its last two games of the year to teams under .500 and missed the playoffs.

It is also reported that Washington is taking on the entirety of Wentz’s contract which includes one more year at $28 million. There is a potential out in 2023 that would void an additional two years remaining on the deal.

Wentz went 9-8 as the starter for the Colts and threw for over 3,500 yards, 27 TD’s and 7 INT’s.

Philadelphia now goes from trading their apparent franchise QB, to now seeing him on a rival team twice a year.

The Eagles accepted an offer from the Colts last offseason consisting of a 2021 third-rounder and a 2022 second-rounder that would later become a first. This came on the back of a season that flew off the rails violently for many reasons, with the attitude of Wentz appearing to be at the epicenter.

For Philadelphia, this only further highlights just how important the move to get rid of Carson Wentz truly was last offseason. It also highlights a lack of confidence in the 2022 QB class. Russell Wilson is now in Denver. Wentz is in Washington. If QB-needy teams aren’t willing to hedge a first-round pick on a signal-caller and would rather risk taking on the baggage that Wentz brings to the table, that kind of says a lot.

Howie Roseman has been adamant he’d stick by his man this offseason and so far, that decision is only being further validated.
