Following up an earlier report that the NFL was investigating Dunta Robinson’s third-quarter hit on Jeremy Maclin … the league just announced that it had fined the Falcons cornerback $40,000.
Replays clearly showed Robinson leading with his helmet, although Falcons coach Mike Smith said he thought it was legal and added, “That’s the way we teach it.”
Robinson certainly didn’t expect a fine when asked about it Sunday night.
“I honestly do not expect to hear from Commissioner Goodell,” Robinson said after the game. “I felt that it was a legal hit even though I was penalized in that instance.”
