With less than eight days until the start of Spring Training, the Philadelphia Phillies are adding another arm to their already sizeable pitching coven by the name of Michael Rucker.
The former Chicago Cubs pitcher was designated for assignment on February 1. He lost his on the 40-man roster due to the official signing of Hector Neris. The 29-year-old reliever played three seasons with the Cubs. Rucker put up a 4.96 ERA and 120:50 K:BB covering 123.1 innings.
Since his debut with Chicago in 2021, he has 68 ER/12.1 IP in 96 career major league relief appearances.
To add Rucker to the 40-man, the Phillies designated fellow right-hander Andrew Bellatti for assignment. Bellatti pitched 27 games and saw 24.2 innings of action.
He had a 2023 record of 1-0, 5.11 ERA, and 4.4 BB/9. He suffered an injury in April 2023 and bounced between the minors and majors after that. Bellatti saw a declining strikeout rate in 2022 and gave up both base hits and home runs at a higher rate than the season prior.
