Pink event honors Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Philly this weekend

This Saturday, Fashion District Philadelphia, Philly Fashion Week and SELF(ISH) Philly will team up with Susan G. Komen for Breast Cancer Awareness to throw a pink-filled event to spread information on Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The event, titled Paint the Mall Pink, is set for Oct. 12, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Fashion District’s main entrance at 9th and Market.

“Fashion District Philadelphia has a long history of supporting local charities and organizations,” said Fashion District General Manager Ryan Williams, CMD in a statement. “We are proud to team up with Susan G. Komen for this first time event to support those in our community affected by breast cancer.”

Williams continued: “Paint the Mall Pink is a partnership with Philly Fashion District and SELF (ISH) Philly that we hope begins a new tradition and a long relationship with Komen to support the 2025 Greater Philadelphia MORE THAN PINK Walk. There is someone in every neighborhood in Philadelphia and the surrounding counties who needs help. Through this event, we hope to support our community and the important work of Susan G. Komen.”

As a release notes, Susan G. Komen believes that ending breast cancer needs the community, because it is “only when we come together and unite as one that we can make a greater impact.” The organization works on patient navigation and advocacy, providing resources for breast cancer patients to understand the American medical system. They have funded research into the causes and treatment of breast cancer since their inception in 1982.

“Seeing the Fashion District pinked out is a touching way to remind everyone to be vigilant about their breast health, so we make even more progress in our efforts to save all lives from breast cancer,”  added Susan G. Komen Development Manager, Taylor Kazaoka in a statement. “Breast cancer can be curable when it is caught early so we urge everyone to have a conversation with their health care provider about their personal risk of breast cancer and get the breast screening that’s right for them.”

Paint the Mall Pink will kick off at noon with Pink Carpet Interviews featuring Miss Philadelphia Tynecia Wilson. The Pink Carpet will be live-streamed on Instagram by SELF(ISH) Philly at the same time as well, and a Pink Survivor Fashion Show by Philly Fashion Week will take place after, at 1 p.m.

The show will take place in The Cube (featuring 15 breast cancer survivors in the Tri-State area and looks from Fashion District tenants) emceed by CBS 3’s  Natasha Brown. The show will include looks from Sephora, Ardene, Maison, Naturally Us, Hi Style, Francesca’s and Nike, the release also notes.

Other activities happening throughout the two hour period include vendors onsite (including Modrn Wellness, Hotworx, La-Mone’s Aesthetics, Joyful Optimist, PECO, 365 Health Services and Philly Colleges Network), pink decor and activations from mall tenants (including Sephora, Maison, Claire’s, Naturally Us and Primark), Susan G. Komen resources, walk registration, a DJ, and much more.

“October is an annual reminder to prioritize your breast health, and we’re excited that Paint the Mall Pink and the Survivor Fashion Show brings even more attention to breast cancer,” finished Kazoka. “We urge everyone to talk with their health care provider about their personal risk of breast cancer so we can make even more progress in screening and early detection. Thank you for supporting Susan G. Komen and participating in these fun events during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.”
