The story of love, sensuality and intrigue that is set in the era of the British Regency and inspired by the novels of Julia Quinn, “Bridgerton” has become a mass phenomenon due to its adaptation by Shonda Rimes for Netflix. Not only because of Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page, but also because it integrates characters from different races and mixes fashion elements that have revived interest in this era.

Period influences

Costume designer Ellen Mirojnick did not only rely on the period in which the series is set. She also played with textures and even silhouettes from decades later, like the ones from the Edwardian period, to create the peculiar costumes of “Bridgerton.” That is why we can observe tulles, prints and even colors that did not exist at that time.

Desired pieces

The series has revived the “Regency core” fashion trend, which is based on the search for lightweight, muslin-like dresses like those worn in the early 19th century. In fact, Lyst’s new report shows that people are looking to purchase corsets, headbands, elbow-length gloves and other accessories. In fact, the search for corsets by Rasario and Dion Lee increased by 123%. Also, dresses by Brock Collection and Erdem increased in searches by 93%, and feather Simone Rocha’s headbands grew by 49%.

In Vogue magazine

In December last year, Regé-Jean Page and Phoebe Dynevor did an editorial for Vogue UK, with more casual and contemporary looks, but with the same elegance.

Runway inspiration

You can find inspiration in the series with pieces from various collections from 2020-21, such as those by Marc Jacobs, Simone Rocha, Brock Collection, Giambattista Valli and Yuhan Wang in Spring/Summer 2021, among other creators.
