Broad Street Run 2022: Train for a good cause

Training for the Broad Street Run 2022? It just became a lot easier—and charitable.

Every year (except in 2020 and 2021 for obvious reasons,) the country’s largest 10-mile race picks up speed on Broad Street, and participants from all over the country flock to participate in the gritty challenge.

Set for May 1 this year, most have already been getting their running shoes in shape, but there’s an even easier way to do it with some notable and local institutions.

City Fitness has partnered once again with Back on My Feet, a local nonprofit with a national reach, for the 2nd year in hopes of raising funds and support. The duo also teamed up in 2020 before the event was made virtual, so naturally, 2022 is a big year for both Philly organizations.

As a release states, this year, City Fitness will lead a series of training runs in partnership with BoMF on Saturday mornings leading up to the Broad Street Run. Through these training runs, the organizations seek to not only help the city train, but to also give support to the homeless community. As a bonus, runners who are still looking to acquire an entry to Broad Street Run will be given the opportunity to join the BoMF FundRacing Team—a $25 registration fee and an agreement to raise $500 for the organization will secure your place in one of the most popular races in Philadelphia.

“Back on My Feet is proud to partner with City Fitness,” says Back on My Feet CEO, Katy Sheratt in a statement. “We are both committed to investing into our Philadelphia community. We are stronger together and appreciate City Fitness’s support of our mission.”

The profits from the training runs will directly impact Back on My Feet’s goal, which is to combat homelessness through the power of fitness, community support, essential employment, and housing resources. City Fitness’ goal through their six locations in the city is to help members achieve the best version of themselves, so by working together this year, City Fitness and BoMF hope to bring fitness and philanthropy to the city.

The partnership officially kicked off March 5 and every Saturday until race day, eager trainees can meet in the lobby of City Fitness’ East Market location (11 S. 12th St.) at 8 a.m. to participate—and the event is open to all, whether you’re a member or a non-member, a frequent runner or a first-timer.

The schedule mileage includes: 3/12 – 5 to 6 Miles; 3/19 -7 Miles (Tempo Option); 3/26 – 5 Miles; 4/2 – 8 Miles (Tempo Option); 4/9 – 9 Miles; 4/16 – 10k (Race Pace); 4/23 – 8-9 Miles; and 4/30 – s Pre-Race Brunch.

All participants will be required to sign a waiver to participate, but participation is free for the Broad Street Run 2022 training sessions.

As a release states, City Fitness is also sponsoring Back on My Feet’s Broad Street Run Brunch. This invitation-only event will be held on April 30, with more details coming soon. Attendees will include BOMF FundRacers, the City Fitness community, and more.
