Burka-wearing shooter and friend convicted, as alleged getaway driver’s murder trial begins

The trial of a third man charged with a 2008 Germantown murder is scheduled to begin today, days after the burka-wearing shooter and his accomplice were found guilty of murder by a jury.

Jamil Banks, 30, and Qentin Salmond, 28, were both convicted of third-degree murder last week for the death of Kenneth Wiggins, 19, which occurred just before 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2008, reportedly after an argument over a dice game.

Prosecutors contended at trial that Banks and Salmond, who disguised himself by wearing a burka, according to testimony, ambushed Wiggins in revenge for Wiggins forcefully taking back money he had lost in a dice game to Salmond.

Salmond’s brother, Bernard Salmond, 29, now faces his own trial on murder charges for serving as getaway driver who helped his brother and Banks escape from Chew and Landsdowne avenues.

Qentin Salmond and Jamil Banks are scheduled to be sentenced May 12.
