Buy a DeMarco Murray jersey? Maybe Wait….

Hey buddy. Want to buy a Nick Foles jersey?

Have I got a deal for you.

Chip Kelly’s rapid fire trading of some of the Eagles’ marquee players is creating headaches for buyers at local sporting goods stores, and regret among fans who shelled out $100 or more for jerseys sporting the Nick Foles name.

At Modell’s on Chestnut Street in Center City, once $100 jerseys for Foles and LeSean McCoy were marked down to $30.

At Wayne Sporting Goods in Wayne, a manager worried that Kelly’s style didn’t leave him with enough confidence to buy jerseys ahead of the season. They had marked down formerly $100 jerseys to a paltry $10.

“Who knows what our Eagles section is going to look like this year,” said Dan Harvan, the store’s manager.

There are a lot of out-of-date jerseys out there. Foles stood at number 15 on the NFL Players’ Association player sales list, which ranks merchandise sold with players’ names on it. LeSean McCoy ranked number 9.

To be sure, there’s nothing wrong with wearing or buying a Foles or McCoy jersey. McCoy remains the team’s all-time leading rusher. And Foles, in 2013, had one of the best season’s as a quarterback in recent memory.

But there is a small amount of sniggering among sports snobs over wearing out-of-date gear. The blog Straight Cash Money Homey, which hasn’t been updated since 2012, drew notoriety simply for posting photos of fans wearing old gear.

Jason Karlowski, a manager of sports marketing for Modell’s says that he expects the old jerseys to sell, eventually.

“They sit,” Karlowski said. “But we slowly start to condense them into stores where they move.”

All of which leads to another question. Given Kelly’s wheeling and dealing, should fans rush out to snag a Sam Bradford or DeMarco Murray jersey?

No, says Zaid Hamid, general manager of the Mitchell & Ness flagship store at 12th and Chestnut.

“They could be here today and gone tomorrow,” Hamid says.

Mitchell & Ness, the Philly brand known for selling replicas of old-school uniforms  sees a bright future in doubt over whether Kelly will jettison his top players.

His advice? Check out some the throwback merchandise the store specializes in. “We’re invincible,” Hamid  said.

They’ve got a pretty nice Ron Jaworski jersey for $250.
