Philadelphia Works, the city’s workforce development board, received funding from the U.S. Department of Labor to expand comprehensive employment services and enhance the accessibility and capacity of the workforce system through enhanced training opportunities and supportive services.
So, what does that mean for you? Here are three reasons that you should take advantage of this career advancement opportunity:
Receive equitable access and priority support
The grant directly supports anyone in the five-county region (Philadelphia, Montgomery, Bucks, Delaware, and Chester) who has recently received or exhausted their unemployment compensation. It also prioritizes populations that have been historically unserved or underserved and experience multiple barriers to career success (e.g., minorities, veterans, low-income communities, and people with a disability).
This funding supports career goals
In addition to employment services and training opportunities, the funds from the grant can be used for supportive services, such as rental and utility assistance, supplies needed to start working, transportation, certification and testing fees, and other services and needs-based payments as deemed appropriate on a case-by-case basis.
