The investigation remains open into the death of Villanova University student Matthew Ainsworth, whose roommate found him dead in his bed Saturday morning, Lower Merion police and a university official said yesterday.
“Our heart goes out to the family and friends of Matthew, and we ask you to keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” Villanova spokesman Jonathan Gust said in an e-mail.
The Houston native’s classmate, Elena Sciulli, described him as “very driven” and “determined to be a successful chemical engineer.” Ainsworth was also involved in many activities at Villanova, including the French and sailing clubs. Ainsworth was also a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.
“Matthew was one of my first and best friends at Villanova. He impacted and changed my life in so many special ways. I will miss him dearly but I will carry his memory with me forever,” Sciulli said.
A memorial service was held at Villanova on Sunday.
