Last year was rife with celebrity death, and one felt most sharply among cinema fans was that of Gene Wilder, who passed away in August at age 83.

To celebrate the life of the actor, writer and director, who was best known for his collabortions with director Mel Brooks (“The Producers,” “Blazing Saddles”) and Richard Pryor (“Silver Streak” and “Stir Crazy”),the Bryn Mawr Film Institute will screen some of Wilder’s best-known films during the rest of January.

On Saturday, Jan. 21, at 11 a.m., see 1976’s“Young Frankenstein,”a brilliant send-up of/tribute to the Universal monster movies of the 1930s. The film co-stars Madeline Kahn, Teri Garr, Peter Boyle and Marty Feldman. The institute will showWilder’s 1971 darkly clever“Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28. The film, based on a book by Roald Dahl, earned Wilder his first Golden Globe nomination.

If you go, both films will be screened at the Bryn Mawr Film Institute at 824 Lancaster Avenue in Bryn Mawr. Admission is $4 to $5 per person. For more information, visit brynmawrfilm.org.
