Mo’Ne Davis has two reasons to be extra proud as her team prepares to represent the Mid-Atlantic Region in the Little League World Series this weekend.

She hails from Philadelphia, a city forging a legacy in baseball from the ground up.

And she throws like a girl.

“If I’m pitching I just go out and throw strikes and they think I throw soft but then they see my fastball and they get kind of scared and I just strike them out,” The 13-year old told ESPN.

With Davis on the mound, the Taney Dragons shut out Delaware 8-0 Sunday to win their regional tournament, and the team (and a slew of Center City families) have already traveled to central Pennsylvania to see the team compete for the most coveted title in youth sports.

“We asked them to give us two hours of the best baseball they’ve played in their lives and they did,” Taney coach Alex Rice said after the victory last weekend.

The gritty and dynamic Dragons will have a challenge to start their World Series in Williamsport Friday.

They will draw the Southeastern Regional Champions, a team from South Nashville, making its second straight appearance in the World Series.

A Nashville star player, Blake Money, once played tee ball on the South Lawn of the White House. The teams will duel at 3 p.m. at Lamade Stadium in Williamsport’s Little League World Series complex on ESPN.
