Charges coming in beating death of Delaware high school girl

Authorities could file charges before the end of the week against three girls, currently considered persons of interest, in connection to a high school assault that left a 16-year-old dead.

Amy Joyner-Francis died after the alleged assault in a bathroom at Howard High School of Technology in Wilmington, Delaware on Thursday, NBC10 reported. A medical examiner’s report on the death remained pending on Tuesday.

“We did not want to rush to judgment,” Wilmington Police Chief Bobby Cummings was quoted by NBC10. “We would rather take our time to conduct this investigation the proper way. Charges will be filed, and individuals will be held accountable for their actions.”

Officials said in a 6ABC report that they were awaiting the completed autopsy before filing charges.

“We need to stop the fighting — we need more security because this should not happen,” Alexandria Rogers, a friend of Joyner-Francis, was quoted by 6ABC.

On Monday morning, a memorial was held outside the school, and classes were canceled on Tuesday because of the primary election, according to NBC10.
