Chicago Little Leaguers lose US title over impropriety

The Little League team that knocked Philly’s Taney Dragons and pitcher Mo’Ne Davis out of the Little League World Series before winning has beens tripped of its title.

ESPN is reporting that league officials determined the Jackie Robinson West team from Chicago used a fake map and pulled players from outside the team’s legal boundaries.

The U.S. title now will go to to the Las Vegas Little Leaguers who finished second in the race for the U.S. title.

Chicago’s Jackie Robinson West team lost the world championship game to South Korea. It was the first all-African-American team to win the Little League U.S. title.

According to ABC, some fans think Taney should get a rematch with Vegas, since they were knocked out by a disqualified team.

“I think Las Vegas and the Taney Dragons should play another game,” 6ABC quoted a Philly fan as saying.

Little League officials did not respond immediately to requests about a rematch.

Mayor Michael Nutter called the situation a “shame” but did not comment on the rematch possibility.

“It’s a shame. I don’t know anything about the Chicago situation. I certainly feel bad for the kids and the other people involved. But Taney is Taney. And nothing can take away from what they did themselves and for this city,” Nutter said in an email sent by his spokesman.

A spokesperson for the Taney Dragons said the team has no comment on the decision about Jackie Robinson West and that the coach and players will not be commenting.
