Chip Kelly says he’s not interested in USC, Texas or other college coaching gigs

There are a lot of pretty appealing coaching jobs available across college football in places like USC, South Carolina, Maryland and Texas.

But while Chip Kelly may be near the top on many of those school’s wish lists, the Eagles head coach and de facto GM has no interest in leaving the ranks of the NFL.

“I understand that it’s going to happen [when] we’re not successful and we’re not winning,” Kelly said, acknowledging the ongoing speculation. “I came from college, [so the assumption is] I’m going to go back to college. I hope someday to be like [Giants Head Coach Tom Coughlin] and win enough games where I can stay around long enough without speculation.”

Kelly, of course, was a successful coach at both New Hampshire and Oregon at the NCAA level. But with a contract worth upwards of $32.5 million to coach one of pro football’s premiere franchises (and with final say over its roster), Kelly is happy where he is. Even with a 2-3 record.

The question about returning to college has come up each year during Kelly’s three-year tenure with the Eagles.

“I answered it the same way a year ago and I answered it the same way my first year here,” the coach said.
