Terror Behind the Walls

It’s not the season of frights in Philly without a visit to Terror Behind the Walls, perfectly situated inside the cellblocks of the already creepy, towering Eastern State Penitentiary. Forget about running from Al Capone’s ghost: At Terror the scares are always much, much worse. In fact, the intensity gets ramped up a little more every year, and the haunted attraction just turned 25. The truly brave can opt for the fully interactive experience, which means the actors can touch you — and grab you, pull you away from your friends and send you down dark hidden passageways.

For the little monsters:

Monster Mash

Dress the kids up and bring them to the Please Touch Museum for the annual Monster Mash, which is going for a “DIY Halloween” theme this year with arts and craft stations, a photo booth, ghost stories, theater performances and a grooving dance party with Clifford the Big Red Dog shaking his tail. And since we all know the real point of Halloween is candy, there will be treat or treating throughout the museum.

For the costume-savvy:

Henri David Ball

“Don’t come as you are, but as you want to be” is the tagline for this long-running Halloween gala from Henri David, which drew over 3,000 people last year. This is the 47th incarnation of the costume spectacular — attendees go all out transforming themselves with clothes, makeup, wigs, props and more, and come midnight they’ll be judged in categories like most sensual, most horrifying, most beautiful female impersonator, best celeb lookalike and most unbelievably spectacular.

For the 20-somethings:

Pure Halloween

Get sweaty with a few hundred of your closest friends at Pure Halloween, one of the roving Making Time parties from Dave P. and crew. Doors open at 9 p.m. but we bet most of the crowd will roll in later and stay going hard until it shuts down at 4 in the morning. (The open bar ends at 11 p.m.). Dave P. & Sammy Slice, Mike Z. & Dave Pack, Rocktits, Broadzilla and Greg D. will provide the sounds you’ll be dancing to late into the night.
