“A lot of life has happened in between this album and the last one,” says Ben Runyan, the artist behind the electronic music project, City Rain.
After the success of its first release, “Songs for a Highschool Dance,” in 2014, Runyan along with band members Scott Cumpstone on guitar and Ross Robey on drums, set out to create an entirely new sound for City Rain on its newest record, “Take Me to the Void.”
All of the songs were written a month after a breakup by Runyan and marks the first time the band’s ever worked with a producer.
“Paula Hansen [the producer] helped us figure out the tracks as rock songs — adding real elements like drums and guitar to make them more than just electronic tracks,” Runyan says.
This Friday, City Rain will perform a CD release show at Milkboy in Center City along with fellow Philly band Minka.
In the meantime, you can listen to an alternate version of the single “Me Without You” on Youtube.
