City says Occupy Philly campers must leave ‘immediately’

After awarding the construction contract for the $50 million Dilworth Plaza renovation to the Daniel J. Keating Company, the city issued an official notice today that the project, which will employ about 800 workers for 27 months, will begin very soon.

The notice stated, “Be advised that the permit for demonstration on city property issued by the city of Philadelphia effective Oct. 6 expires at the start of the Dilworth Plaza construction project. This project’s commencement is imminent. Accordingly, you should take this opportunity to vacate Dilworth Plaza and remove all of your personal belongings immediately.”

The city will be sending out outreach teams tomorrow to assist any homeless who need help relocating. Managing Director Rich Negrin said that he still hopes to work with Occupy Philly representatives on finding an alternative location.
