Cocktail of the week: Varga Bar Hot Apple Cider

Varga Bar Hot Apple Cider

Serves four

What’s in it

1 quart of apple cider

1 tbs. whole cloves

1 tbs. whole allspice

5 pieces of star anise

1 tsp. whole cardamom

1 tsp. pink peppercorns

2 oz. spiced rum, per serving

5 cinnamon sticks

How to make it

Put all spices in a saute pan and toast on top of stove for 3-4 minutes or until spices become fragrant. Add to apple cider and bring to a boil. Once the liquid is to a boil, turn the heat off and allow the spices to steep into the cider.

Add 2 oz. of spiced rum to about 8 oz. of the steeped, strained cider, and garnish with cinnamon stick and/or freshly ground nutmeg.

Where to drink it

While the recipe will come in handy for future snow days, for now you can cozy up to the bar at Varga for some fall cider sipping.
