The historic Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville always likes to do things a little differently, and their recently announced spring line-up of events certainly reinforces that reputation.

First up, on April 5, locals can head to the creative locale to catch the Emmy Award-winning Spanish guitar and dance spectacular, ‘Benise.’ The experience is one of the longest-running Latin-themed theatrical productions worldwide and features the renowned composer, joined by an international ensemble of musicians and dancers.

Then, on April 11, visitors can catch the return of “Colonial 54: An Immersive Disco Experience.” Some may remember the theatre’s previous event, “20s with Hush: An Immersive Speakeasy Experience” which took on the roaring decade, but this time around, the Colonial Theatre now invites guests to step into the “dazzling world of 1970s New York.” While there, music will be provided by DJ Moshé, The Spin Therapist, and Roxanne Rohls will step into character as Liza Minnelli.

Colonial is also set to host the acclaimed Total Mass Retain YES Tribute Band on April 12 and the 6th Annual Earth Song Fest on April 26. With the latter, the family-friendly event showcases live performances by Earth Song student bands and soloists, plus a marketplace with different vendors. Attendees can also enjoy raffles, face painting, and a variety of interactive activities.

On May 3, the younger crowd will be able to experience music and entertainment from decades past with the ‘Shannon Curtis: 80s Kids performance’. As a release describes, the high-energy synthpop concert brings the biggest and most iconic hits of the decade to life, featuring songs from bands like Pet Shop Boys, Erasure, and OMD.

The first week in April also marks the beginning of Blobfest ticket sales—a fan-favorite event that happens every summer at the Colonial Theatre. Each year, the locale sets aside a few days to pay homage to the venue’s starring role in a 1958 classic Steve McQueen film. Blobfest centers around the popular horror cult classic, ‘The Blob’, and the three-day festival will give film buffs and horror fans the chance to check out live performances, special engagements, tours, and more.

Otherwise, the Theatre has other spring showcases set on its schedule, like The Poets of Phoenixville event. In honor of National Poetry Month, local poets will take the stage on April 13 to share their original works and engage with the audience in a thoughtful Q&A session about their creative processes.

Local bestselling author Jennifer Weiner (‘The Griffin’s Sisters Greatest Hits’) will also head to the Colonial this spring as well. On April 17, Weiner will be on-site to discuss one of her most anticipated novels to date and give insight into her writings, which typically revolve around themes of sisterhood, motherhood and young love.

April 27, on the other hand, will hold a special event featuring stars from some of Broadway’s most famous shows. ‘Broadway at the Colonial Theatre’ will boast vocal talents from John Riddle (‘Frozen’, ‘Phantom of the Opera’), MaryKate Morrissey (‘Wicked’, ‘Mean Girls’), and Noah J. Ricketts (‘The Great Gatsby’, ‘Beautiful’), led and accompanied by the Dan Micciche.

And lastly (but certainly not least) the Colonial’s ‘Songwriters in the Round’ performance will be held on May 17. That evening, Grammy Award-winning songwriter Don Henry will take the stage alongside Phoenixville’s own Callahan & Fey for a “truly personal musical experience.” As the release describes, held in the Garden Suite, this performance offers audiences the rare opportunity to be up close and personal with the artists, providing a more intimate setting than any other concert at the Colonial.
