Cooper, Williams fight at Eagles practice

Riley Cooper and Cary Williams got into a scuffle Thursday at Eagles practice.

It took more than a month, but Riley Cooper finally found himself in an altercation on the football field.

Cooper got into a fight Thursday on the Eagles’ practice field with teammate Cary Williams. Several players were involved, including Mike Vick, who stepped in to break up the scuffle. Cooper said the incident had nothing to do with the racial slur he made earlier this summer at a Kenny Chesney concert.

Williams was covering Cooper in one-on-one drills right before the fight broke out. Cooper appeared to have grabbed Williams’ jersey a bit too aggressively and the two jawed back and forth before it got physical. They slapped each other’s helmets, with Williams sticking his hands into Cooper’s face-mask.

Brandon Boykin broke up the initial scrum, but Williams kept shouting and walking toward Cooper. Ultimately, Vick had to physically restrain Williams.

“Our maturity level’s gotta be on a whole different plane,” said Vick. “Regardless of who the catalyst was for the whole fight, that doesn’t matter. We’ve gotta be men. We’re not guys who are out on the street, fighting one another. We’re teammates.”

Williams, who has instigated several fights this summer and got kicked out of a joint practice with the Patriots, refused to talk to reporters after practice.
