Investigators gave the all clear Monday night hours after Temple University’s Liacouras Center received a bomb threat that interrupted a graduation ceremony for students of Olney Charter High School. The school’s@TempleUnivTwitter account issued a warning around 3:30 p.m. Monday telling people to “use caution. Avoid the area. Police are responding.” The threat and subsequent evacuation reportedly came as students from the charter school were at the end of their ceremony. Brandon Lausch, a university spokesman, told PhillyVoice the threat was phoned in to police around 3 p.m. “Police are investigating the caller,” Lausch said. “There was a graduation ceremony for Olney [Charter] High School finishing up at the time and we evacuated the Liacouras Center out of an abundance of caution. We have also alerted our community.” Investigators used police dogs to scour the center until 6 p.m., and gave the all clear shortly after.
Liacouras Center, a concert and sporting venue that is home to the Owls men’s basketball team, is in the heart of the Philly campus.
