Cops look for Old City home invasion suspect who can’t drive stick

An Old City home invasion suspect allegedly loaded two stolen shotguns into the back of the victim’s car, but had to leave them behind when he was unable to drive a stick shift.

The robbery happened on the 200 block of Delancey Street on Sunday just before 6 p.m, police said. The 84-year-old victim had been sitting in his car. When he returned, he saw a man hiding behind a curtain.

The suspect allegedly told the victim, “I was told you have guns and a lot of cash,” police said.

After taking his cell phone and wallet, the victim was forced upstairs where he turned over $350 in cash and $80 from a purse. He then gave the suspect two shotguns that were hidden under a downstairs couch, police said.

The suspect wrapped the guns in a blanket before loading them in the car.

According to police, the suspect told the victim he couldn’t shift from park to drive. He asked the homeowner to back the car out. When the victim said he couldn’t do it, the suspect walked away.

Police are asking for the public’s help in locating the suspect, who is described a a black male, 5-feet, 9-inches tall, approximately 40 years old.

He was seen entering the home on surveillance video.
