A blog called “Why the PLCB Should Be Abolished” has 57 Facebook followers. Their stance on state sales of alcohol and wine got some high-profile support this week as GOP gubernatorial candidate Tom Corbett said he agreed.
“We need to move our state out of the 19th century,” Corbett’s campaign website proclaimed.
The privatization debate is nothing new. In April, a state lawmaker said, “Government should not be in the business of selling alcohol.” Pennsylvania is one of only two states to completely control such sales. Corbett’s opponent, Dan Onorato, said the money generated by the current system helps balance the budget and while he would “consider any proposal, he will focus his reforms on areas that save taxpayers money.”
