On Saturday night Philly’s favorite drag queen, Martha Graham Cracker, will compete with the Made in America Festival for your attention with a music extravaganza at Johnny Brenda’s called — wait for it — Made in Philadelphia.
“After the second Made in America Festival was announced, and I still didn’t get an invite, I figured, what the hell, we know lots of talented people, too,” says Miss Cracker, aka Pig Iron Theatre co-founder Dito van Reigersberg. “So my pianist Victor Fiorillo and I created the Made in Philadelphia Festival, inviting some of the best Philly talent that will be on display at this year’s Fringe Festival.”
The lineup includes Geoff Sobelle dancing on ice skates, Johnny Showcase singing and, of course, Martha Graham Cracker, backed by the Martha Graham Cracker Cabaret and belting out tunes in that hysterical, irreverent, impressive way she does – only this time the set includes an entire album, voted on by Facebook fans. As for which album it will be, you’ll have to show up to find out: “All I can tell you is that it’s from the ’80s, it’s epic, and it requires lots of fog and lasers, both of which Johnny Brenda’s has plenty of.”
