DA: Delco bank manager stole $400,000 from elderly and dead

A branch manager at Iron Workers Bank in Aston, Pennsylvania, has beenaccused of stealing $439,000 from the bank accounts of eight elderly and dead women over 10 years.

Catherine Allman, 60, of the 500 block of Walnut Lane in Philadelphia, is charged with theft byunlawful taking or disposition, receiving stolen property, forgery-unauthorized act in writing, theft bydeception, criminal use of communication facility, identity theft and other theft related charges.

The investigation began in August 2014when a lawyer handling the estate of a deceased client noticed a transaction in the client’s bank account that occurred about a month after the client had died. The lawyer contacted the bank branch in Chadds Ford. The manager there noticed that the client’s address had been changed to Allman’s address.

When bank executives got involved, Allman left for the day and never returned to work.

County detectives determined that Allman’smother or one of her relatives hadaccounts at the bank, and that Allman simply transferred money to them. From there, she transferred the money to her own bank account at Wells Fargo.

Allman was arrested Monday. Bail was set at $100,000.
