Danny Watkins: ‘Just a regular guy’

The rookie needed some coaxing earlier today to address the media, but he finally did. Coach Andy Reid announced that Danny Watkins had been promoted to starting right guard at his morning press conference. Now, the Eagles’ No. 1 draft pick is preparing to make his first NFL start.

“Well, we need a win [and] that’s what it comes down to,” Watkins said. “We all need to start clicking and firing on all cylinders.”

There had been speculation that Watkins was overwhelmed with the hype of being such a high draft pick, and the increased scrutiny of playing in fan-crazed (and media-obsessed) Philadelphia. While he admitted to the environment being a little “different,” Watkins said he’s getting used to it.

“It’s strange, everyone knows who you are,” Watkins said. “And that’s something that I’m still getting used to. You know, I’m just a regular guy.”
