Dave Dombrowski agrees to a three-year extension with the Phillies

The Phillies announced a three-year contract extension of President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski, keeping him with the club through the 2027 season.

Sorry Nashville, you’re going to wait a little longer, John Middleton wants his trophy back– and continues to stop at nothing to do so.

“I would like to express my gratitude to John Middleton for extending this opportunity to me. He is an amazing owner who is so eager to bring a world championship back to Philadelphia, and I look forward to the challenge of achieving that goal,” Dombrowski said through USA Today’s Bob Nightengale on Twitter.

Dave Dombrowski joined the Phillies after the pandemic shortened 2020 season. There was a lot of uncertainty surrounding the Phillies, including the possible departure of All-Star catcher J.T. Realmuto. Dombrowski would eventually come to a terms on a deal with the Phils backstop on a five-year, $115M contract. A record for catchers in both average annual value and overall salary.

Dombrowski is one of the main people responsible for the construction of the Phillies’ 2022 National League Pennant-winning team.

In his near two years with the club, Dombrowski has made some very notable moves that were imperative to the Phils’ success in 2022 and moving forward. Some of those moves involve:

-Signing Kyle Schwarber and Nick Castellanos

-Firing Joe Girardi

-Removing Rob Thompson’s Interim tag

-Acquiring Brandon Marsh from the Angles, solidifying centerfield for years to come

-Releasing Didi Gregorious to open up shortstop for Bryson Stott

There is still work to do for Dave Dombrowski and his staff, but coming two wins away from a World Series victory a year after not even making the playoffs shows Dombrowski has pushed the right buttons thus far and John Middleton believes he will continue to do so.
