Davida Janae gives us style advice for Philly Sips

If you’re a sports fan, you probably recognize Davida Janae from the Sixers Dance Team. While her last game was only a few weeks ago, the 28-year-old recently retired from the team to focus on her career as a stylist and fashion blogger with her website, Vida Fashionista.

With the launch of Center City District Sips last week, we thought it would be a good idea for Janae to give us some style advice on how to slay at the weekly happy hour without stressing too much. (Let’s face it, the daily grind is stressful enough.)

Here are 5 tips on how to go from the office to Sips without sacrificing great style.

Wear heels.

If you live in the city, chances are you’re wearing comfortable shoes to walk to work, but ditch the sneakers and flats for a pair of heels before hitting Sips. “It will give you a little elevation and will makes your legs look nice,” Janae says. “ I’m only 5’3’’ so I get all the height I can get!”

Carry a cute tote.
Not sure where to put your bulky walking shoes? Invest in a cute tote that will add life to your outfit, but also hold your necessary goods. Throw in an umbrella as well to safeguard against an unexpected rainstorm.

Leave the cut-off tops at home.
Remember that Sips is an afterwork event so it’s important to be dressed to impress other professionals. “We’re not going club-hopping in Atlantic City,” Janae says. “You could see your boss. Try to look conservative in a casual way.”

Use a setting spray.
Getting all dolled up in the summer can be pretty torturous, especially when it gets extra hot. Janae recommends using a setting spray to keep your makeup looking fresh all day long. “I used it all the time for dancing,” she notes. “Dancing on the court, you’re going to sweat and this keeps it looking just as good as when the game started.”

Statement earrings are your new best friend.
If you prefer fashion that is simple and straightforward, a pair of statement earrings can elevated your look for happy hour. “Throw on a statement earring and you’ll get compliments on all night long,” assures Janae.

At the end of the day, Janae says that the most important thing to bring to Sips is your confidence and a smile.
