This weekend marks a special occasion, and some top Philly spots are celebrating the best way they know how — with food and drink specials. Día de los Muertos or the Day of the Dead kicks off this Saturday, Oct. 31 and ends Monday, Nov. 2, and all Philadelphians are invited to check out the delicious deals that a few eateries are offering over the three day period. 

Sueño

This Midtown eatery just opened a few weeks as an addition to the popular pop-up spot Nightmare Before Tinsel. Sueño comes from Craft Concepts Group and owner Teddy Sourias and is meant to be a celebration of the Mexican holiday with inspired decor, original art pieces from some of the region’s top artists, plus a menu that features traditional and fusion Mexican cuisine by Executive Chef Caroline Hough (which includes a new taco board featuring plenty of proteins and toppings.) For Day of the Dead, the new eatery will be celebrating on Sunday and Monday with $2 off all frozen margaritas and cocktails inside the restaurant, for frozen cocktails to go, and at the outdoor streetery. Food specials from Hough will also include Magnolia Tacos (magnolia-pressed taco shells, braised beef, onion, cilantro, lime), Pozole (pork and chiles stew), and Mexican Chocolate Empanadas.

Nightmare Before Tinsel

Just like Sueño, it’s sister spot Nightmare Before Tinsel will be celebrating the Mexican holiday this Sunday, Nov. 1. According to the release, Nightmare Before Tinsel will close the season with a family-friendly day. Nightmare will extend and be open to coincide with the Day of the Dead celebration next door at Sueño. Day of the Dead is a family holiday and by popular demand, Nightmare will offer a very special family-friendly day where parents and their children are invited to experience the fun together. Tickets are specially discounted this last day of the season for $15 for adults over 21 and $5 for children, and the recommended age for Nightmare is 12 and up.

Buena Onda

Buena will be celebrating Day of the Dead this Sunday and will be offering an assortment of specials for Philadelphians to enjoy to celebrate the holiday. On Nov. 1, diners who head to the eatery can enjoy $5 nachos, $5 featured Passion fruit Margarita and $2.50 gringo tacos from open to close.

Rosy’s Taco Bar

The Center City taco and tequila spot is celebrating Día de los Muertos all three days: Saturday, Sunday and Monday—so Philadelphians will have ample opportunity to come out and celebrate. Food and drink specials from Rosy’s include Calabaza (a pumpkin dessert with a sweet sauce, garnished with pumpkin seeds), Pozole (a traditional soup/stew), tamales (a corn tamale with chicken or pork and salsa verde or mole sauce on top) and a special drink titled Muertos Creciente or Dead Rising (made with apple cider, cranberry, mulling syrup, ancho reyes and espolon blanco.)

Al Pastor 

The eatery in Exton will be celebrating both Halloween this Saturday and also Day of the Dead over the three day  period. According to a release, on Halloween Saturday, children will eat for free when in costume for Halloween, and there will be free trick or treat bags available while supplies last. For all three days, look for the following food and drink additions and specials including Chicken Tamales (1 for $6 or 2 for $10) and a Spiked Abuelita Hot chocolate ($12.)
