More flags, more fun—and even more reasons to visit one of New Jersey’s most popular thrill-seeking attractions.
Six Flags Great Adventure is located about an hour from the City of Brotherly Love, and annually, millions of people head to the locale, which recently announced a more than $1 billion investment in its theme parks over the next two years. One of the results of that influx of money comes in the form of a new rollercoaster — The Flash: Vertical Velocity — dubbed North America’s first “super boomerang” coaster.
The investment will also go towards park updates in 2026 with a multi-record-breaking launch coaster. “[It’s a] must-ride attraction sure to capture fans’ imaginations,” says Brian Bacica, park president. This new coaster is set to be so big, it put Six Flags’ once-behemothic Kingda Ka and Green Lantern coasters, plus other attractions, in retirement to make way for construction.

In the meantime, 2025 is set to unleash a few more fun additions to its line-up. DC Heroes and Villains Fest is taking over the venue every Friday through Sunday evening through Sept. 1. The fest unfolds as a real-world, interactive story with figures like Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Robin, The Joker, Harley Quinn and Catwoman making appearances through different performances. The experience overall is meant to immerse guests themselves in Gotham through music shows, dance parties, and other surprises — so suiting up in a DC costume is welcomed.
The Fest also features stunt professionals, dancers, technicians and effects teams taking over the Metropolis area (right by Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth ride). But visitors can get a taste of the experience throughout the park with different themed food and beverage offerings as well.
There’s the Vigilante Funnel Cake (topped with Oreo cookies, yellow sprinkles and chocolate syrup), the Heroic Hawaiian Pizza, a Mystery Egg Roll (either buffalo chicken, cheesesteak or pepperoni pizza stuffed), the KaPow! Parfait (layered with red velvet cake and chocolate pudding), the Garden Lair Salad, and the Heroes & Villains Sundae. Drinks-wise, DC fans can sip on the alcoholic Speedster Splash (made with passionfruit vodka, Sprite, orange juice and pineapple juice) or the non-alcoholic Lightning Lemonade (served with raspberries and lemon slices) while here for the occasion.
Most of the performance fun for the Fest starts in the afternoon (around 4 p.m.), but visitors can get in the spirit a bit early by riding Batman The Ride, the Hatley Quinn Crazy Train, Superman Ultimate Flight, The Dark Knight Coaster, The Joker and the aforementioned Flash and Wonder Woman rides.

Tickets are also currently on sale for the park’s popular Fright Fest, set to take over the venue on select nights from Sept. 12 to Nov. 2. The Halloween celebration features themed horror-film mazes (think ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ and ‘The Conjuring’), dedicated scare zones, and other holiday fun. Kids can come early for Boo Fest, which features Trick or Treating, “Not-So-Spooky” Shows and fun photo-ops throughout the park as well.
Additional fun can also be found with a new way to enjoy both Six Flags and Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom (located 90 minutes from each other) with one 2026 pass. According to a release, for the first time ever, guests can explore two of the Northeast’s most popular parks with a single pass priced at the lowest rates of the year (prices vary depending on your choosing.) This regional perk is part of the first anniversary celebration of the merger between Six Flags and Cedar Fair.
“This massive benefit is one that only Six Flags Entertainment can provide with more than 40 amusement, water and animal parks spanning three countries,” said Christian Dieckmann, chief commercial officer for Six Flags. “A 2026 Six Flags season pass is your international passport to fun with dynamic family entertainment, refreshing thrills and the world’s most exhilarating roller coasters.”
