Delaware state trooper shot in Wilmington

A manhunt is underway for the person who shot a Delaware state trooper in Wilmington on Wednesday.

The shooting happened about 4 p.m. at 24th and Market streets. Trooper Richard Deskis, a 17-year veteran of Delaware State Police, is recovering from a gunshot wound to his right arm, 6ABC Action News reports.

Deskis was assisting Wilmington police as they investigated a parked vehicle that contained suspected stolen merchandise. He was interviewing a woman when gunfire was directed toward him and other officers, according to the report.

Deskis is home after being treated at Christiana Hospital.
