DeSean Jackson trying to get back from injury before season’s end

DeSean Jackson wants to get back in the fold for the Philadelphia Eagles before the season — and potentially his tenure with the team — ends.

According to NBC Sports Philadelphia’s John Clark, the veteran wide receiver began running routes on the practice field Thursday morning in the hopes that he can return to action after suffering a high ankle sprain more than seven weeks ago.

Jackson’s second stint in Philadelphia hasn’t nearly gone according to plan as it’s been derailed by injuries. He was limited to just three games last season due to an abdomen injury before hamstring issues this year have only allowed him to suit up four times.

During those seven games, he only put up 22 receptions for 314 yards and two touchdowns.

It is already known that he won’t be available for the Eagles’ Week 15 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, which leaves him just two games to get back unless Philadelphia makes the playoffs.  At 4-8-1, they trail both the Washington Football Team and New York Giants in the NFC East standings.

Jackson getting back into the Eagles offense would provide a surge of outside, playmaking talent for a team that has struggled for consistent production at the position all season. Not a single Eagles wide receiver has more than 46 receptions or 467 yards this season.

Clark also mentioned that Jackson won’t be returning to the team in 2021, meaning the Eagles won’t be picking up his third-year option — at least on his current salary. That option is worth over $8 million next year.
