Even though we are all social distancing to help flatten the curve and stay safe, that doesn’t mean that we can’t celebrate occasions—we just have to do it from a distance.
In honor of its 12th anniversary, South Philly hotspot Devil’s Den, is hosting Devilish Grins—a spirited night of comedy and music led by resident bartender and Arab-American Comedian and Game Show Host, Alyssa Al-Dookhi. The festivities will take place through Instagram Live this Tuesday, April 14, at 8 p.m. All Philadelphians have to do to watch is tune into Al-Dookhi’s Instagram, @thedookness! from a desktop device.
Devilish Grins will feature a few comedians and performers, some of who are very notable in the City of Brotherly Love’s comedy scene and others who are recognizable from popular programs on TV. Viewers can look forward to John Deary, Jillian Markowitz, Diala Taneeb, Shannon Turner, the Cabaret Darling from Glitter and Garbage and Chanel Ali of Comedy Central and MTV to provide entertainment throughout the spirited occasion.
This event is personal for Alyssa.
Al-Dookhi, who was a 2019 Philly’s Phunniest finalist and a featured performer at HBO’s Women in Comedy Festival has been working behind the bar at Devil’s Den every Tuesday since Beer Week 2017, and is now hosting the event to help the popular gastropub during this precarious time.
“I can think of no better way to celebrate 12 years of the Devil’s Den than giving back to the people who make the restaurant so great,” Al-Dookhi said in a release. “My hope is this show and our fundraising project can be a bright spot in the darkness for the 25 people who make up our team.”
Tuning in is free, but donations will also be graciously accepted. According to the release, to donate, donations to the staff can be made at gofundme.com. One hundred percent of donations made through the gofundme page will go directly to the front- and back-of-the-house staff at Devil’s Den. All who donate during the show will also get shout outs during the event.
