With the holidays over and the winter season in full swing, the excitement doesn’t have to die down in the city, especially not at Dilworth Park. On top of the Rothman Orthopaedics Ice Rink and Cabin being open through Feb. 25, the venue’s Wintergarden will also remain open until March 17, and upcoming events will entice visitors at both locations.
With skating, Philadelphians can reserve 90-minute ice skating sessions online. Admission is $6 for children 10 and younger, and $9 for adults; skate rental is $10 per person and discounts are available for groups of 10 or more.
As a release notes, now through Feb. 25, adults and children with physical/developmental disabilities can also reserve a sled to use on the ice at no charge, including free admission, thanks to Magee Rehabilitation Hospital. One adult accompanying the sled user will also receive complimentary admission and skate rental, and to reserve a sled, anyone interested can email sleds@rinkmanagement.com.
Mondays and Tuesdays at the rink in February (from Feb. 5 to 20), skaters of all ages will be able to hit the ice at no charge. The Rothman Orthopaedics Cabin will also still be offering up some winter favorites to fuel up after being on the rink, with some options including burgers, soups, plant-based bowls, cocktails made with Hornitos Tequila and Haku Vodka, plus local and craft beers spanning Kona Big Wave and Michelob Ultra among some of the options.
The Wintergarden on the other hand is chock full of twinkling lights, reindeer topiaries and woodland décor. It will be on site until the spring, and after that, Wintergarden’s plant material will be repurposed after the garden is disassembled to further beautify CCD parks and planters throughout downtown Philadelphia.
Dilworth Park will also be home to some events throughout the remainder of the winter season, including Cocktails and Cold Ones every Wednesday (through Feb. 21) from 5 to 7 p.m. where Philadelphians can sip on $7 Maker’s Mark Bourbon cocktails, $6 wine and $5 Hazy Beer Hugs, plus indulge in discounted weekly food specials. Another ongoing special is College Nights presented by Temple University (through Feb. 22) on Thursdays where college students pay $3 for admission with a valid student ID for the rink.
The venue also has some stand-alone events including the Ice Festival supported by Verizon. Taking place on Jan. 20, the activation will feature skating performances, ice sculptures, dueling ice carving demonstrations and a full-size baby grand piano made entirely from ice. Ice skating at the Rothman Orthopaedics Ice Rink, activities for the family and plenty of warm food and beverages will also round out the day.
There’s also the Lunar New Year Celebration presented by Temple University on Feb. 17, featuring a prancing lion, traditional Chinese dancers and a themed menu in the Rothman Orthopaedics Cabin, where the first 100 guests will receive a lucky red envelope containing secret prizes. Ice skating sessions will be available throughout the evening as well.
Other events to look out for this winter season in Dilworth Park includes a Superhero Skate on Feb. 3, Big Game Tailgate on Feb. 10 and Love on Ice event on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14.
As the release finishes, the winter season at Dilworth Park is presented by the Rothman Orthopaedic Institute, Temple University and 6abc. All programs are weather-permitting and subject to change. Dilworth Park is located at 1 S. 15th St., on the west side of City Hall. For more information on any activities happening, visit centercityphila.org
