The summer of 2020 has felt different than years past, but one aspect of the sun-kissed season that is still in full swing is Shark Week. Whether you’re a lover of the aquatic creature, just curious, or delving into into Discovery Channel’s popular programming for the first time, the Adventure Aquarium in Camden has a fun and safe way for all to celebrate Shark Week.
Now through August 16th, the CAA will be celebrating Shark Week with a variety of different exhibits, some of which are completely unique to the Aquarium.
“Shark Week is one of our favorite times of the year, and there’s no better place to see these powerful predators up-close than Adventure Aquarium,” said Vince Nicoletti, Executive Director of Adventure Aquarium in a statement. “The opportunity to experience the largest collection of sharks on the East Coast and the only Great Hammerhead Shark on exhibit in the United States is really something to be excited about in New Jersey. Our hope is that guests learn to revere, not fear, these greatly misunderstood creatures.”
Philadelphians can get up close and personal with massive sand tigers, sandbars and blacktip sharks in the Shark Realm — with absolutely no glass to separate you. The brave participants will also get to feed stingrays after swimming with the fishes during this incredible activity as well. Or, if you’d prefer to stay dry while getting a closer look, venture across Shark Bridge (which also happens to be the largest of its kind in the country) where you will be just inches above the 21-foot-deep “Shark Realm” exhibit and all of its inhabitants.
Guests can also meet Anchor, the only great hammerhead shark in the whole country, or walk through the Shark Tunnel where you will have an incredible 180-degree view of Shark Realm, the second-largest exhibit at Adventure Aquarium. Guests can also head to the “Touch A Shark” exhibit to safely touch some of the most exotic sharks in the world.
With the current pandemic, not everything will be open at the Aquarium, but Philadelphians of all ages will still be able to enjoy everything the CAA has to offer in honor of the fin-filled week.
According to the release, during SHARK WEEK, Adventure Aquarium’s social media channels will also offer virtual shark facts, videos and more for the audiences at home. Adventure Aquarium is open daily from 9 am to 6 pm, and it is required that all visitors make advanced reservations and purchase timed tickets ahead of a visit to the aquarium. Guests can schedule their visit by visiting adventureaquarium.com/reservations. All of the Shark Week events will be available with the Aquarium’s general admission ticket.
