Does Carson Wentz deserve a higher rating in Madden 19?

Madden 19 is set to come out in a few weeks and fans are already having discussions about the game. Over the last few weeks, EA Sports has been unveiling the ratings for rookies and the top players at each position.

Some of these player ratings are warranted, while others are puzzling, leaving some NFL players in dismay.

At the quarterback position, both Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers share 99 overall player ratings with Russell Wilson (92), Drew Brees (91), and Matt Ryan (89) rounding out the top five.

One player not mentioned in the top five was Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz. Wentz, who is now going into his third NFL season, had a breakout 2017 season.

The former second overall pick completed 60.2 percent of his passes for 3,296 yards, 33 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. However, his numbers would’ve been higher if he did not suffer a late season-ending injury against the Los Angeles Rams.

But did it affect his Madden 19 rating? It might have as Wentz was given an 86 overall rating, placing him behind Philip Rivers (87), Andrew Luck (87), Ben Roethlisberger (88), Cam Newton (88).

Wentz’s other attributes were: Awareness (87), Speed (82), Acceleration (82), Agility (82), Strength (72).

What was Carson Wentz’s rating in Madden 18?

When Madden 18 came out, Wentz only had a player rating of 79, so this was a vast improvement for him. However, you could make an argument that Wentz had a better season than all four quarterbacks and should at least be rated an 88 overall.

Think about it, Rivers had an okay last season with the Los Angeles Chargers, Luck missed the entire season, and Roethlisberger was an interception machine for the Steelers. Newton also struggled last season, but he did get the Panthers to the playoffs with a much-maligned wide receiver unit.

With that being said, Wentz definitely deserves to have a higher rating in Madden 19. But if he plays at an MVP level like he did last season, Wentz will reach a 90 overall or maybe higher in no time.
