Betting preview

The Miami Dolphins came out sputtering against the Jacksonville Jaguars and fell down 17-7 by the third quarter before mounting an exceptional comeback headlined by Tyreek Hill. Despite his bizarre arrest before the game, ‘Cheetah’ caught 7 passes for 130 yards and a touchdown on the day, helping lift Miami to a week 1 win.

As for the Bills, they endured a torrid time against the Cardinals, who, like Jacksonville, looked poised for the upset early. The Bills rallied back to a win, but it was clear that the loss of Stefon Diggs was going to be tough to stomach this season.

The Dolphins come into this as a small favorite and it’s hard to disagree with that line. The Buffalo offense might have a flurry of talented wideouts, but none are at a true WR1 level, while Miami boasts both Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, and a quarterback far less sporadic in terms of his production.

Why the Bills can win

Buffalo’s defense didn’t get off to a flying start, but was able to silence the Cardinals in the second half while the Bills clawed their way back into the game. They won’t have a zippy quarterback to worry about in Kyler Murray and although Tua can make plays with his legs, the Dolphins’ offense is a little less chaotic to contain.

On offense, Josh Allen has a tendency to turn it on at a moments notice, and once he is able to adapt to spreading the ball around and utilizing players such as Dalton Kincaid, who was oddly quiet in Week 1, they should be able to get back to moving the chains with ease.

The Bills also won when these teams last locked horns in a narrow 21-14 win, and according to Opta, Josh Allen has won 11 of his last 12 games against the Dolphins, which is an alarming stat if you’re backing the favorites.

Why the Dolphins can win

The Miami offense looked lethal when it finally kicked into life on Sunday, and they now come up against a vulnerable Buffalo secondary. With new pieces at safety and injury concerns at corner, Miami’s intent on pushing the ball down the field could prove to be a damming outcome for the Bills.

The rushing attack looks balanced with Achane at the forefront, and the team was able to completely smother Jacksonville defensively in the second half of their Week 1 win. Momentum is the key here and Miami earned every bit of their win, and you could argue that the Bills were the less convincing of the two.

Betting pick

I think Miami is the stronger outfit coming into this game and the homefield advantage will also count for something. The Bills are still adjusting to some key player changes on both sides of the ball, whereas the Dolphins looked war-ready once the momentum started to build.

I’ll be backing the Dolphins to win -2.5.
