Drake-inspired #Nosavesies video may be Philly PD’s best move in history

In their public campaignagainst “savesies,” the practice of locals saving rare parking spots on narrow Philly streets with cones, lawnchairs, milk crates and other household items, the Philadelphia Police Department have struck gold with a new video.

“Call us on your cellphone/ When you see-e-e-e tha-a-a-tco-o-o-one …That parking spot’s not yours a-a-a-lone,” an unidentified Philly police officer sings, to the tune of Drake’s “Hotline Bling,”in a video titled “Hotline Savesies.”

Savesiesare technically illegal. They’ve been known to spark altercations and even fistfights among neighbors jockeying for parking spots on narrow Philly streets, especially when heavy snowfall makes driving particularly perilous.

Asked to identify the singer, the department’s manager of digital and social media,Sgt. Eric Gripp, responded on Twitter, “In order to convince the ‘singer’ to go through with it, I had to promise anonymity.”

The police department’s #Nosavesies campaign first started going viral with the infamous “Game of Cones” meme Gripp circulated last winter.

“Hotline Savesies” has taken that into another dimension, with over 200,000 views on Facebook as of this posting. Watch the whole video below.

HotlineSavesies

A snow storm is coming..and you know what that means. Soon, people everywhere will be using cones, lawn chairs, trashcans, uh, toilets, and any other household item that they can think of to save their shoveled-out parking spot. Folks - the spot isn't yours, and saving it is against the law. Don't fight and argue with your neighbors - if you see an offending spot saver, call 911 and the PPD will swing by and check it out.Oh! Since we are a totally hip police department, and as such, we know that the kids like the Drake, we made this neat video that you can share with them! Now, it's easy for young kids everywhere to get the message that when it comes to holding parking spots on public streets, Philadelphia is a #NoSavesies city!
