Drexel prof admits sending porn link in op-ed, bashes media

Drexel University Law Professor Lisa McElroy has admitted to accidentally sending her students a link to a graphic pornographic video.

In a Washington Post op-ed entitled “After a public shaming, reclaiming my dignity,” McElroy describes breaking the news to her daughters, that “I had inadvertently sent my law school students a link to a porn site,” as she puts it.

The email with the link to the video, which involves an actress and anal beads, quickly went viral and the story was reported internationally.

McElroy describes surviving the public shaming that ensued, saying she was “mortified” and saying that she felt like being diagnosed with cancer would be easier to swallow.

But the email was found to not be a violation of school rules.

“A short internal investigation found that I had not violated Title IX or Drexel’s sexual harassment and misconduct policy,” McElroy wrote.

A Drexel spokeswoman confirmed that via email, stating “The fact-checking process confirmed that Professor Lisa McElroy sent the link in error and cleared the way for her to continue her academic and research responsibilities.”

Meanwhile, McElroy blamed the media for picking up the story, and criticized the people who read the story.

“No one publicly questioned the dignity of the so-called journalists who wrote salacious stories, broadcast them, waited outside my office to interview my students, called my unpublished cell phone number. And no one questioned the dignity of the intended audience,” she wrote.

McElroy, a former contender on “Who Wants to be a Millionaire,” has written for thePlain English column on SCOTUSblogand is the author of numerous books for children about Supreme Court justices and prominent elected officials.
