Duke claims national lacrosse championship

Duke beat Syracuse, 16-10, Monday at Lincoln Financial Field.

The Duke Blue Devils are champions of the lacrosse world again.

For the second time in three years, Duke won the NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Tournament. The Blue Devils dug themselves out of an early hole and rallied to beat Syracuse, 16-10, Monday at Lincoln Financial Field. It marked the third time in program history that Duke had appeared in the national championship game.

Brendan Fowler was named MVP after controlling the face-off circle, winning 20-of-28, including 13 straight draws. Jordan Wolf tallied four goals for Duke, with Josh Offit and Josh Dionne each adding three scores.

Duke advanced to the championship game after beating Cornell, 16-14, Saturday afternoon. Syracuse got to the title tilt by defeating Denver.

Fowler and Wolf, along with midfielders David Lawson and Jake Tripucka were named to the championship’s All-Tournament team. Dylan Donahue, JoJo Marasco and Dominic Lamolinara earned the honor for Syracuse.
