The NFL seems to have a sense of humor sometimes. Not very long after Michael Vick agreed to travel 90 minutes north to the New York Jets, on a one-year, $5 million deal, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported that the Eagles were close to signing a deal with Mark Sanchez, recently cut by the Jets.

Sanchez is still in recovery from a major shoulder surgery in the fall, but NFL insiders say he can pass a physical, and if he does he can find new life as a back up in Philadelphia.

The one-time de facto starter in the Meadowlands has thrown 68 touchdowns and 69 interceptions during his five years with the Jets.

The key to the signing however, is if Sanchez is healthy enough to make the Eagles roster.
